Born: 2012 (died 2022) Breed: European Shorthair Calico
Bonny came into my life rather unexpectedly. She was born to a friend’s cat who, despite my repeatedly telling him to have her spayed, had escaped and returned home pregnant. He found homes for all her kittens except Bonny. For some reason, nobody wanted her, and eventually he convinced me to take her.
Bonny was the ultimate floppy cat—quiet, gentle, and incredibly laid-back. Her favourite place was the very top of the cat tree, where she would drape herself over the edge with her legs hanging down. She would sit and lie in the most amusing ways and I always used to say that I wished I could achieve that level of utter relaxation!
She and Misi were best friends. They were often curled up together, and Bonny would happily plop herself down in front of him, demanding a headwash. She was a shy girl and wasn’t particularly fond of people, with the notable exception of me.
After a short illness, Bonny was diagnosed with a very aggressive tumour in her heart. Four years ago, when she was only ten, I had her put to sleep.
I still miss so many little things about her—especially her habit of eating my hair, and the sight of her wandering around the terrace at night, yowling at nothing in particular.
Bonny was a quiet, gentle little soul, but she left a very big space behind her. I still miss her terribly. ❤️
