Prawn

Age: 10 years old (2026) Breed: European Shorthair Tabby Calico

Prawn was only a few weeks old when a friend found her lying in the road. She was so weak from malnutrition that she couldn’t even stand, and he initially thought all four of her legs were broken. He had been on his way out for a night with friends, but instead, they picked up this tiny, helpless kitten. He called me in a panic and brought her straight to me.

When he handed her over, she was curled up into a tiny little ball that looked just like a prawn, so Prawn she became. She was filthy, covered in fleas and absolutely starving. After a few good meals, a bath and some deworming, she was like a completely different kitten.

Prawn has always been a shy, independent little girl. She tends to keep her distance and doesn’t often come looking for affection, although every now and then she’ll decide to sit on my lap. When she does, I feel very honoured to be chosen as her chair. She has never liked being picked up or held, so I’ve always respected her boundaries.

She has, however, decided that my mum and two of my closest friends are absolutely wonderful. Whenever they visit, she spends almost all of her time with them and is considerably more loving towards them than she is towards me!

Most of the time, you’ll find Prawn sitting at the very top of the cat tree or relaxing outside on the terrace. She has the funniest little raspy meow, although she hardly ever uses it, and she has always been such a calm, gentle and well-behaved girl.

I absolutely adore her beautiful colours and markings. She is such a gorgeous little girl, and seeing the tiny, starving kitten she once was grow into this beautiful cat has been incredibly special. ❤️
